Ghost of Christmas past

One thing I’ve always been very good at is keeping records, I’d recommend it. You can look back and recall what you did previously and improve on it. Or just use it as a point of reference. I tend to archive a lot of trading records and make notes against them so I can remember how the markets traded, what I did and what I was thinking.

I was browsing my records from previous years this evening and came across this previously good performance from 2007, this was achieved over 152 markets. This period covers the week leading up to the last day of the year. There was no racing on Christmas day or eve, obviously.

This year stood out as it was a rare year where everything went to plan. By that I mean the markets traded well, were set up nicely and they actually happened. Looking at previous records around this time of year one thing or another seems to go wrong. Typically the weather can decimate the card and that is what makes a good result at this time of year particularly hard.

Today there were a couple of abandoned meetings, but other than that this year has been a good year in terms of opportunity. Though it’s clear I haven’t performed quite as well this year. But it’s been nice to reflect on this ghost of christmas past.

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
