Marmite Monday

Marmite Monday

It’s that day of the year that you either love or hate. The August bank holiday in the UK brings a whole bunch of racing, all on the same day.

There will be lots of meetings on Monday and about a billion races. This may seem like heaven for some, but it’s a nightmare for others. Quite a few races will attract little liquidity, a lot isn’t of quality and many races will clash meaning that you can’t do much

It’s that day of the year that you either love or hate. The August bank holiday in the UK brings  a whole bunch of racing, all on the same day. Then as we drift into the late afternoon, the US Open tennis gets underway. Not exactly a relaxing Bank Holiday!

Today there will be 483 runners over 51 races. This may seem like heaven for some, but it’s a nightmare for others. Quite a few races will attract little liquidity, …

One Bank Holiday you may want to trade

One Bank Holiday you may want to trade

Bank holidays can be a bit of mare. Four billion horses, racing over a thousand meetings. OK, A slight exaggeration there, but you get the picture. Too much racing, too many courses, not enough quality and everything falling over itself.

But today that actually isn’t the case and generally isn’t on this holiday. We have a lot of runners and they are spread many races, but the card is lined up well. That means, even allowing for later starts, it’s …

Manic Monday

It’s one of a handful of manic trading sessions you see during the year today.

There are 620 runners on the card today and 54 races. Sounds like heaven, but it can be hell. The markets are just often not strong enough to do anything with. You often get a lot of donkeys out and therefore you end up with some competitive handicaps at the lower end of the scale, but little money and little time to trade them.

If …

May Bank holiday racing

May Bank holiday racing

So that’s the Guineas parked for another year. I did OK, but didn’t get as much as I would have liked from the feature races, I just can’t get my orders filled quickly enough. But it was a satisfactory result. Over the two days I produced remarkably similar results. So 10/10 for consistency but maybe a bit less for the overall results.

Another public holidays means a whole bundle of racing on the card, often too much. If you have …

Manic Monday

The late summer bank holiday brings with it, not just the traditional rain in the UK, Cartnel is abandoned due to waterlooging; but a plethora of racing as well.

That’s an issue. Even with the one abandoned meeting there are still 64 races in the card. But quite a few of them clash directly and during the day it’s unlikely that all will go off on time so that will bump up the number of clashes.

It’s going to be …

It’s that day of the year that you either love or hate. The August bank holiday in the UK brings  a whole bunch of racing, all on the same day.

In total there will be ten cards todays and about a billion races. This may seem like heaven for some, but it’s a nightmare for others. Quite a few races will attract little liquidity, a lot isn’t of great quality and many races will clash meaning that you can’t do …

Racing needs to wake up

Racing needs to wake up

Sunny public holiday, lots of people on extended holidays, spirits are high. But racing is struggling to muster up decent fare again.

Today we have a bumper bank holiday card with 8 meetings and 55 races on hand, excluding the Irish racing. But a casual glance down the UK card shows only Warwick with decent fields and out of the remaining 7 UK meetings only 4 races have ten runners or more. Hmmm….

No racing on Good Friday and only …

Seven race cards with generally average fodder on display, good luck if you are having a go. My advise if you are, is to try and pick up on clear opportunities. With so many races on clashing it is inevitable that some markets will be rubbish, but hopefully some will get just inside the required sweet spot. With so many on, just ignore the rubbish ones and try and catch some quality opportunities. Good luck!

[EDIT] – Just been checking …

Mixed up Monday

Mixed up Monday

Ah, it’s that time of the year again when you are faced with the inpenetrable bank holiday markets. About a billion low quality races all going off at the same time! Often there is so much clashing and problems that next to nothing can be easily traded and if you can, you may not actually see the start itself. A risk in itself.

This particular Monday has never been a favourite of mine and two years ago I pulled in …
