Can an Englishman win the US PGA?

If they can they are going to have to perform exceptionally well!

I had a nose at the last 55 championships and there is an ever so slight bias to the American players. Of the 55 championships I looked at, 42 winners were American. We also had three Australian wins, two South African, two Fijian (Vijay Singh of course) but also a South Korean, German, Irish and N.Ireland in there. Just no English. The dominance spills over to top ten finishers in recent years as well. With Woods form peaking at just the right time it looks like this could be his best shot in ages at a major.

Of course this was McIlroy’s glory last year but a chunk of that was help by terrible weather last year. This year the forecast looks pretty good and that will favour the home soil players and players who are on the american tour. What about Rose? Well Rose hasn’t performed that well in the past. Tied third last year is interesting, but prior to that it was cut, cut, cut. Momentum from the US Open may carry him a little further forward this year. Luke Donald actually has a number of good performances in this championship but isn’t particularly on form at the moment, T-32 last year.

But really it’s all about Woods. His price is discounting a decent shot at this title and most of the betting will follow that. That’s annoying as it messes it up from a trading perspective. The good weather may also mean the scoring is consistent and that doesn’t make for great trading either. I guess we will have to see how the course scores on the first day, but this isn’t a tournament I can really get stuck into this year. Bad weather and a really competitive field is more my style.

I’m active in the pre-off market anyhow and will carry some of that forward into the tournament and will hopefully be able to work some magic on that.
