US PGA Golf

The ‘fourth major’ starts today in the US and should provide some opportunities. That said, I temper my enthusiasm as the Golf season wears on as history has shown that I do worse at each major as the year progresses. I don’t know exactly why that is, but I suspect as form lines get stronger, opportunities weaken.

The US PGA at first tee last year turned over £5m.

Valhalla beckons, will Rory roar?

Valhalla beckons, will Rory roar?

Some of the stats I’ve used here have come from the excellent Golf Stats website.

The golfing world’s attention now swings, excuse the pun, to Kentucky and to two golfers in particular.

I like competitive golf tournaments where the winner is uncertain but currently, despite Rory McIlroy’s comments, we do appear to be entering a new era in golf. Tiger Woods dominated for a number of years and each tournament would start with him as a clear leader. Thanks …

US PGA Golf – The cut & schadenfreude

US PGA Golf – The cut & schadenfreude

Full list of movers available on the forum, best return to a £10 stake, back to lay, was £466.19 on Robert Garrigus. He started at odds of 1000 and is now down to 85 after trading as low as 21 when battling for a share of the lead. Even at his cut price of 85 you would have returned £107.65.

For two tournaments in a row I have been too pessimistic, I need to find my positive thinking self …

US PGA end of day one

US PGA end of day one

I have posted a full list of positive and negative movers to £10 stakes on the forum.

A fairly normal day as far as the market was concerned, but the weather did play a hand and that wasn’t expected.

It was ‘nice’ to see Woods slip out of favouritism fairly quickly and that gave me hope that I will get something decent out of the tournament.  At the end of the day one I’m up £258 on the tournament, …

Can an Englishman win the US PGA?

Can an Englishman win the US PGA?

If they can they are going to have to perform exceptionally well!

I had a nose at the last 55 championships and there is an ever so slight bias to the American players. Of the 55 championships I looked at, 42 winners were American. We also had three Australian wins, two South African, two Fijian (Vijay Singh of course) but also a South Korean, German, Irish and N.Ireland in there. Just no English. The dominance spills over to top ten …

US PGA movers

US PGA movers

We are suffering from Woods form at the moment. The last two majors have seem a resurgent Woods bottle down the front of the market and that’s impacted our best scenario in the Golf. The weather has been favourable this year as well. Still, here are the best trades from yesterday to £10 stakes, slim pickings.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano – 780 to 80 – £87.5
Gary Woodland – 370 to 55 – £57.27
Alex Noren – 260 to 40 – £55…
