The curious story behind Brentford & Midtjylland

The curious story behind Brentford & Midtjylland

Midtjylland meet Southampton this evening in the Europa league. When Saints drew Vitesse in the last round I wasn’t pleased they had drawn the top seeded side. As the draw came out for the next round I had have an eye on Midtjylland. Sods law dictated that they were immediately paired with Southampton. Why my interested in this club? For that you need to look to Matthew Benham.

Benham is an Oxford gradute turned pro gambler. He has fingers

PREVIEW: Chelsea v Southampton (Sun, 13:30)

Chelsea come into this game on the back of a thoroughly disappointing result and performance against PSG in midweek, while Southampton’s schedule has been much easier without the rigours of European football or domestic cup ties. They beat Crystal Palace last weekend in what was a much needed win after defeats against West Brom and Liverpool. Chelsea will be looking to maintain their comfortable position at the top of the league, while Southampton will

Nailed on Lay Bet

Nailed on Lay Bet

I jest slightly, but there is probably a deeper message here. Rather than tip tap away for 1/2 hour to bring you this rather startling comment from a trader I thought I would do a video about it, Enjoy!

Southampton agree fee for tea lady

Southampton agree fee for tea lady

Quite a few jokes doing the rounds at the unprecedented sale of Southampton players which is attracting a lot of press. But inside the humour and horror (for Southampton fans) some serious lessons for traders. You can profit from the mayhem. But first, anecdotal reflection and another trading lesson.

In 2003 I sat in the Millenium stadium and crowed at how Southampton had finally made it. Seventh in the premier league, FA Cup final and a crop of talented …

When to bet on your own team

When to bet on your own team

I’m a strong advocate of not betting / trading on your own team when watching a sport. I like to have a reasoned logical approach to things and trying to place a position on a team that you follow can seriously mess up your head and result in taking positions in hope rather than for a profit. So therefore I don’t bet or trade on teams I follow.

However, there is one time though where I do tend to have …

Much fun was had

Much fun was had

I found myself at the new Wembley stadium yesterday, the first chance I have had to go. It was a useful coincidence as the match was on a Sunday, my usual day off, and it is my birthday this week. So it seemed a good chance to ‘go large’ and have a decent day out.

I took my eldest daughter and my son with me as well so they could experience the occasion. It was great and well worth the …

FA CUP fifth round

FA CUP fifth round

I like the later stages of knockout competitions. There is lots to play for and when a goal down and ten minutes are left , it’s all or nothing. These are the places you not only find value but plenty of opportunity and teams playing out of their skin, I love it! Wembley stadium is only a few games away today and anything can happen.

I’ve checked through the odds and nothing wierd has been thrown up. But consider the …

Couldn’t make it up

Couldn’t make it up

One tie looks set to light up what otherwise appears to be a dull and predictable fifth round FA Cup draw.

I waited with baited breath knowing that there were a few ties that could produce a classic cup match, but was amazed when the one top of my list occurred, Southampton vs Porstmouth. I couldn’t believe it!

This should be a real classic fifth round tie. Local derby, quite a history behind this fixture and a perfect set up. …

Four year hoodoo ended!

Four year hoodoo ended!

Ever since I watched Southampton relegated from the premiership four years ago, my presence at a football ground seems to condemn the home team. I don’t get the chance to see many matches nowadays, but every match I turn up to since then, ends with the home team unable to win. Regardless of the quality of the teams, whether its the champions league or a more minor game, I have been unable to watch a home team win. Finally I …

How to turn over a 1.60 shot

How to turn over a 1.60 shot

I knew Southampton would lose yesterday, or at least not win. How? Well there were two key overriding factors in yesterdays match.

First, I had bothered to make the trek to the south coast to watch the match. Because of the unsocial hours of the sports markets I don’t get the chance to watch much sport so when there is a team nearby that plays when I can watch, I’ll often nip along. Unfortunately for Southampton every time I watch …

Coincidences

Coincidences

I had another one of those coincidences last night. I went to my local Gym which is attached to a luxury hotel. I drifted through the hotel and there in front of me was the chairman and manager of Southampton football club. As you may know, for my sins, I have followed Southampton from when I was very young as they were my local team.  I had a little chat with them, but they obviously have a lot on …
