BMW PGA – Wentworth – The Cut

BMW PGA – Wentworth – The Cut

List of positive movers at the cut, returns to £10 stakes.  The really bad weather on Thursday and Friday put paid to a host of contenders chances so this has been very beneficial for people further down the field at the start. Weather forecast is good today and tomorrow so I would imagine some of the higher ranked players will re-assert there authority on the tournament.

I’m busy on other sports today but will be heading over to Wentworth for …

BMW PGA Golf – Laying Luke

BMW PGA Golf – Laying Luke

Not the biggest turnover Golf tournament on the calendar from a matched bet turnover perspective, but the nearest one to home!

So this week, I’ve been popping back and forth to Wentworth to keep an eye on proceedings in the morning. It’s not too far from me so I can do the school run and then divert up the M3 to the golf course.

I nipped along for the first time on Wednesday for the Pro-AM day. I used the …

Peak trading season nears

Peak trading season nears

58 races on the card, Tennis in Madrid, players championship golf, this is all good stuff.

We are well and truly embedded in the flat turf season now. 58 races greet us on the card today and there must be at least a dozen really decent opportunities in there. I’d love to tell you what they are, but my trading style means I wont know until we are much nearer the start. But it’s all good stuff out there.

The …

US Masters at the cut

US Masters at the cut

Well that all worked out OK in the end.

Woods threatened to spoil the party, but a bad run starting on the turn saw him slip back in the standings, but he is still favourite. He touched a low of 2.12 before finishing the day at a more realistic 3.85. In and around Woods familiar faces from day one held there out but predictable Garcia fell away.

Lots of contenders still left in the contest and quite a bit could …

US Masters movers – Day One

A full list of movers is available by clicking on this link.

Marc Leishman was the suprise mover on day one and came in from 720 to 65 returning £100.77 on a £10 stake. Plenty of other movers from the hundreds to the top of the leaderboard including David Lynn whose 2nd in the US PGA meant he was surprised to realise he had qualified for the Masters. A pretty good round for a Masters rookie. The market however …

Houston Open Golf – Best trades

Houston Open Golf – Best trades

This is proving a very useful warm up event for me this year, ahead of my first major effort at the US Masters in Augusta.

The main feature of the tournament so far is the continued stuttering start to 2013, of Rory McIlory. He only just made the cut and his priced has slipped from 10’s at the off to 46’s. Thanks in part to McIlroy’s loss of form and some great performances further down the field this has been …

Miracle of Medinah – Europe win the Ryder Cup

Miracle of Medinah – Europe win the Ryder Cup

Well, we did think it would be close, but after the first day or so it really looked like an uphill battle for Europe. In the end it was one of the closest most remarkable Ryder Cup’s yet played.

Thanks to some wonderful golf from both sides we ended up with an amazing spectacle, much better than you could have imagined. More remarkably, Europe completed an amazing turnaround to bring the Ryder Cup back to Europe, again. Who would have …

Trading the Ryder Cup Golf

Trading the Ryder Cup Golf

Looking forward to the Ryder cup this weekend. Nothing like a bit of Patrotism to spice up a sporting event!

I did a full write up on the Ryder Cup last time around but have been too busy to do so this year. One thing I remember really well from th 2008 Ryder cup was how ‘the tie’ played out in a competitive competition.

This year looks very competitive, though I was surprised to see home advantage priced in as …

US PGA – The cut

US PGA – The cut

Now that’s more like it!

Tiger Woods is still playing well and in contention, things would be better without that. But on day two a number of players came in from the cold to put in some good rounds and still themselves near the top of the leaderboard and much shorter in odds. We have the weather to thank, almost an inch of rain fell overnight and strong winds blowing in from the sea made the course incredibly tough. So …

US PGA movers

We are suffering from Woods form at the moment. The last two majors have seem a resurgent Woods bottle down the front of the market and that’s impacted our best scenario in the Golf. The weather has been favourable this year as well. Still, here are the best trades from yesterday to £10 stakes, slim pickings.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano – 780 to 80 – £87.5
Gary Woodland – 370 to 55 – £57.27
Alex Noren – 260 to 40 – £55…

US PGA Golf

I’m currently working a few positions into this market.

I like the US tournaments because you can benefit from decent liquidity in the run up to the start without having to get up a ridiculous O’clock in the morning.

No major movers at the moment, Lee Westwood has drifted a bit. Rory McIlroy looks a little short to me. OK he has an incentive to win, but his form has been a little erratic since his first major. It’s not …

Open Golf – The cut

Open Golf – The cut

Only fifteen players continued to be positives as we reached the cut. But the biggy was a big biggy with Brandt Snedeker coming in from 300 to just 6. This would have netted you a whopping profit of £490 for a £10 stake. Of course your other option was to lay any of the other players outside of this 15 for a profit, your choice. I prefer to find the former.

I was headed for a nice profit till Woods …

The Open Championship golf

The Open Championship golf

It took me a while to see the appeal of Golf as a betting sport. But over time I’ve learnt to enjoy getting stuck into the big Golf tournaments. This week we have the grand daddy of the lot, the Open Championship, being held this year at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf club.

The thing that really caught my eye was the large price of winners on a lot of tournaments, especially the highly competitive and tricky majors. The …

15th Major for Woods?

15th Major for Woods?

Tiger Woods got of to a steady start yesterday on the first day of the US Open in his quest for a 15th major. The market has been shortening Woods for tournaments recently and responded by pulling in his price from 9’s to 3.95. Surprise leader is Micheal Thomson who has come in from 690 to 30’s after posting a four under on the first round, don’t you just love golf! Conditions were described as ‘testing’ and this has caused …

Wells Fargo golf – Best trades

Big news is that Tiger didn’t make the cut. Tiger went off at 12’s behind the favouite McIlroy and made par but that wasn’t good enough. Going into day three McIlroy is four shots off the leader Nick Watney. So far the tournament leaderboard is stuffed fulled of decent moves from further back in the starting field. Here is a selection, returns to a £10 level stake: –

Webb Simpson – 32 to 4.4 – £62.73
Nick Watney – 70 …

2012 US Masters day two

2012 US Masters day two

As predicted the McIlroy / Woods battle didn’t really take off on the first day. Henrik Stenson looked like he was going to create some waves but equalled the worst ever 18th with a snowman (an 8). This was a real shame because he was pulling off such a great move that the green on him alone was worth a fortune, if I had traded out, but I didn’t! I went back and reviewed his round and he had a …

Getting better at Golf

Getting better at Golf

In real life and on the markets!

Out with my son again this morning who got his first par today and I managed to get round the whole nine holes on par. Haven’t done that for a few years, one birdie, one bogey. I’m also getting better at understanding the golf markets. It’s taken a few years but I am finally getting under the skin on the markets. It’s proved pretty interesting and it’s also been a bit of a …

Open Source

Continuing my theme of getting more involved in sports rather than just trading them I am headed of to Royal St’ Georges today for the final day of the open golf. I’ll be able to see what it looks like at source. I hope it doesn’t rain too much.

No mobile phones or PDA’s allowed on the course, so no greensiding possible! I’ll just have to enjoy the day.

The Open has been brilliant so far. The highlight today was the hole in one by Tom Watson, amazing. When my shoulder is better I’m getting out there again to reduce my handicap. It’s inspiring to see a 61 year old holding his own against the worlds top golfers.

Open Golf – McIlroy drift continues

Open Golf – McIlroy drift continues

Now the Open championship market is firming up, I’m interested to see the drift on McIlroy is still continuing. I had factored in a bit of a drift but it’s interesting to see how strong and maintainted it is. At the moment the market and likely conditions are perfectly set up for a good trading market.

While zipping around the net I found this good preview for the championship. A good overview and some food for thought: –

The Open Championship

Had my first really detailed look at the Open today. McIlroy has drifted a bit since my first casual glance and that makes for a much more interesting market.

I tend to have a good go at the majors unless there is a very short priced favourite, so the drift on McIlroy is welcome. The weather forecast is mixed for later in the week so that increases my interest. I will probably be heading over to Kent on Sunday so …

Final day of a busy week

Final day of a busy week

Well done to Rory McIlroy who continued to rip through the US Open. Unfortunately this scuppered my trade which needs a competitive field to work. At 1.40ish this leaves only one possible strategy, to back or lay McIlroy. I reckon most people will lay McIlroy given his blow up in the US Masters. It’s a clear fact however, that the error most people make is to take past trends and extrapolate them into the future. Rather than go on gut …

Royal Ascot / Open Golf Thursday

Royal Ascot / Open Golf Thursday

Another good day in the bag for Royal Ascot, but I left it late today. I didn’t get a real blockbuster race till near the end of the card. I had to work much harder than yesterday and I took my foot of Betdaq, as working harder meant I couldn’t keep focus on two exchanges effectively. I did broaden my activity out on Betdaq though to other races and they worked well. So after Ascot I’m going to continue my …

US Open golf

I love the majors as they very often throw up some excellent opportunties. So while things are very busy at the moment, I will be taking time out today to open up with some positions on the US open.

The Blue Course at Congressional is longer than when previous majors were held there and the par has been reduced to 71. That is almost certaintly going to make the scoring much more competitive and the scores lower. Should be interesting.…

Phew, what a weekend that was!

We are now entering peak season for all things sports related and this weekend was a good warm up for the months ahead. When you have been going for as long as me, you need a little luck …

US Masters – The cut

US Masters – The cut

It’s been an excellent Masters so far and the big mover before the cut was Jason Day who was trading at 300’s yesterday and has come into 16’s. Fortunately, I had some money on Day at 240’s, so that’s really made up the numbers at the cut. Tiger looks menacing so I have taken profits on positions and will re-appraise during the third day. I have plenty of profit to play with now. If I can’t see any new opportunities …

First trade of the tournament is already done. When the market was formed Woods was way too short at 5’s so I laid him. His best finish this year is T10 and there is no evidence at the moment that he was anywhere near a 4/1 chance for the masters. It turned out a lot of people thought the same and he is at a much bigger price and I am out for the moment. Not very often you get …
