Miracle of Medinah – Europe win the Ryder Cup

30/09/2012 | By More

Well, we did think it would be close, but after the first day or so it really looked like an uphill battle for Europe. In the end it was one of the closest most remarkable Ryder Cup’s yet played.

Thanks to some wonderful golf from both sides we ended up with an amazing spectacle, much better than you could have imagined. More remarkably, Europe completed an amazing turnaround to bring the Ryder Cup back to Europe, again. Who would have thought Golf could be so exciting! Team USA were turned over at odds of 1.06 – over £2.5m was matched, and lost, at odds of 1.14 or lower.

The most remarkable moment came with the very last shot when Woods missed an easy put and handed the tournament to Europe. I was overweight on Europe at that point, but had given up hope of it coming in. I imagine quite a few traders bagged an unexpected bonus on that.

The latter stages brought up some wild swings in the market but ultimately the sport of Golf was the big winner!
