Racing steps up a gear

Nice looking card today with Newbury, York and Newmarket then Aintree in the evening. So I’m rubbing my hands at the prospect of some more action today.

The better quality racing has been quite good this week, the other stuff in-between not so great. But I’ve managed to pull out the odd decent result while avoiding the worst of things. It’s noticeable recently though, particularly since mid April, that trying to get an order filled on the weaker betting markets is getting increasingly harder on Betfair. I don’t think this affects people using smaller stakes, but if you are trying to use larger stakes its a right pain. Betfair’s pursuit of sports book ‘success’ appears to be ensuring is core markets are weakening. If they continue on this path, they could run into problems.

It seems the market has yet to adjust to this weaker underlying activity, as prices are often getting chased out very sharply as people try to enter or exit positions. It’s almost like it’s only the residue of demand is reaching the market sometimes. Like most things this can be an opportunity or problem depending on how you look at things.

Was pleased and disappointed with yesterdays result. Pleased at the result, but disappointed that I didn’t pick up on all opportunities that could have lead to a much better result. I shall attempt to regain my focus today to try and get a decent week under my belt.

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
