The comeback kings
When trading you are looking to lay at the shortest possible odds first then trade out at much higher odds, or vice versa. Doesn’t matter which, I’ll take either!
However you need something to happen for that opportunity to arise. In football there are many ways that this can happen but the main method to see a swing in odds is goals.
The perfect scenario is for a team to conceded a goal then comeback to win the match. This presents you with a perfect opportunity to back at high odds on the team that is a goal down, or lay at low odds for the team in the lead. Some teams are better at comebacks than others but so far this season few have been better than Man United. Have a look at their record: –
Aug 25: From 0-1 down to beat Fulham 3-2
Sept 2: From 0-1 and 1-2 to beat Southampton 3-2
Sept 23: from 0-1 down to beat Liverpool 2-1
Oct 2: From 0-1 down to beat Cluj 2-1
Oct 20: From 0-1 to beat Stoke 4-2
Oct 23: From 0-2 down to beat Braga 3-2
Nov 7: From 0-1 down to beat Braga 3-1
Nov 10: From 0-2 to beat Aston Villa 3-2
Now we do have the benefit on hindsight here, but if you look up and down the league you will see that not all teams can turnaround a match. Its a similar thing in Tennis, not all Tennis player can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. But Man Utd do have this habit of bringing themselves back into a game. But also think about the opposition, you need to seek teams that just can’t hold onto a lead. Typically these are teams with poor defensive qualities.
Given their track records so far this year, you could probably crown Man Utd as the ‘comeback kings’, therefore you would also have to credit them as a very profitable trading team. Let’s hope that continues!
