Marray, Murray, Wimbledon,Tennis and Fish

Really looking forward to the Wimbledon mens final today, when history will be made one way or another. Maybe we will see a Marray / Murray double, how funny would that be?

Unfortunately I will not be able to witness it first hand as I will stuck in mud / traffic at the British Grand Prix. I didn’t figure Nadal would go out of the tournament so early and that Murray would make it to the final. It’s also a lot easier to get a decent ticket to Silverstone than mens final at Wimbledon. Been to the womens final before, but not the mens (yet!). This would have been a good year to go. But such is life, you make decision and you stand by them. Thanks to mobile broadband and some older technology I’ll be able to keep in touch with both sports at the same time.

I have already put a trade into the market and will have some automation running. It’s possible to do this because Tennis is reasonably predictable. Starting odds can be projected forward with reasonable accuracy. This is why we created Tennis Trader. You still need room for error though if you really want to go for it, as only if you are at the screen or can you completely correlate what you see with your projections. You also need to watch out for injuries as well. As long as there isn’t a whitewash tomorrow I stand a fair chance of making a profit from the match in my absence. This is where the fish comes into things.

There are a finite amount of points, games and sets that can be played in a match. So it’s possible to map out the scenarios in advance. This means you can set up a potential trade subject to calling certain likely characteristics of the match. You also see that as the match progresses certain paths get eliminated from the equation. This means that you can frame your upside and downside from that point. I was busy plotting out a scenario the other night when my daughter walked in and ask me why I was using a spreadsheet to draw a picture of a fish. In fact the fish was a chain of the tie break in a match. It was a plot of likely odds from 0-0 to 7-7 I guess it does look a bit like a fish.

In all sports where points or goals are scored you can do the same thing. So before the final today fire up Tennis trader and start drawing your own ‘fish’ to get an insight into how the men’s final could play out.
