Extra time and the ‘to qualify’ market

28/06/2012 | By More

At last this week, I have finally got the chance to have a play around in the ‘to qualify’ markets in extra time.

These are some of my favourite in-play markets on footy because you can, to a certain extent, frame your upside and downside risk. The downside will always be a goal, but the upside is relatively neat and frequent on both teams.

As the teams play out extra time, if the match remains level, the odds on either team will bump up and down as the teams go from attack to defence. This also happens in a match odds market but the time element in the match odds market is very strong. In the ‘to qualify’ market there is a small element of time decay but it is correlated between the teams and not so pronounced. This is because, even after extra time is over, there is still the prospect of the penalty shootout. This means you can nip in and out of the market frequently during extra time and have plenty of chances to bag a profit.

So, only a couple of games left but hopefully some more extra time!
