Manic Monday

Today one of a handful of manic trading sessions you see during the year today.

Manic Monday

There are a total of 76 races on today. Sounds like heaven, but it can be hell. The markets are often just not strong enough to do anything with. You often get a lot of lower graded horses out and can end up with some competitive handicaps at the lower end of the scale, but little betting interest and therefore money and also little time to trade them.

If all races start on time, then there will be clashes today. If races start on their average start time (usually later than post time) then we could see a lot more clash. Any variation to that will torpedo whole sections of the card from a trading perspective.

Trading advice

Today is a day where you probably won’t smash the ball out of the park, but the patient may be able to do something by picking off a good opportunity. I’m non-plussed about today. After a fab weekend, there is no pressure on me to trade today, but you can choose to do that if you wish. There will be opportunities, but they will be much more transient than what you have just seen. I will have a look at the card and probably do a few races, but charging through the entire card today probably isn’t going to work. Curiously the best racing today is at Naas.

The late May bank holiday is a bit better structured than this one, so maybe that’s the one you target. With great weather forecast in the UK today it will be your last chance for a bit of R&R before we dive headlong into the summer racing proper.

Good luck whatever you do!
