The growth and growth of inplay

The growth and growth of inplay

It seems difficult to imagine a time when it wasn’t ‘all about the in-play’ – but before Ray and Betfair there really wasn’t much concept of betting on an event after the official start time. How things have changed!

The start

Back when exchanges started, it was purely a replication of the traditional bookmaker regime. Similar sports and similar punting styles, but exchanges brought this new concept of betting while an even was underway.

In essence, some markets were ‘in-play’ …

1.03, 1.02….1.01

1.03, 1.02….1.01

I don’t profess to being a genius when it come to in-play stuff on the racing, but I am currently trying hard! Part of that is watching and gathering data on each race. I just watched a classic at Wincanton.

Leading horse comes up to the last fence, never sure why prices are so short in heavy ground, jumps it then pecks the ground and takes a tumble. There is 1.03 gone!

New in-running tool

New in-running tool

Something has been annoying me for ages and that is how I’ll often sit between races waiting for the next one to start. It’s a lot of wasted time, so I recently decided it was time to do something about it. The result is a new tool for Bet Angel users.

The concept is a clickable user interface that shows you the progress of a race as it happens. Its the first ever product to allow you to click on …

England v South Africa opportunities

England v South Africa opportunities

Peter De Villiers is under increasing pressure at the helm of the South Africa rugby union team and will hope he can make amends for a poor year with victory against England this weekend.

Much has been made of the Springboks’ six game winning streak against the Red Rose, but results this season suggest that there is good value in backing the hosts early. In their nine matches since the start of the tri-nations in July, South Africa have tasted …

Cross matching goes live on inplay racing

Cross matching goes live on inplay racing

See Betfair announcement. Looks like they are planning to go live tomorrow on all racing: –

“Following a previous trial earlier this year, we are now running another trial of in-play cross-selection matching (‘cross-matching’) on the win markets at Lingfield Park on Tuesday 23rd November. Cross-matching will only be activated after the markets are turned in-play.

If successful, cross-matching will be turned on for all in-play win markets on British and Irish horseracing from November 24th onwards.

Cross-matching was introduced
