Making hay while the sun shines

Making hay while the sun shines

An old phrase, but one that is equally applicable to trading at this time of year. As we are now in peak trading season, it’s time to harvest!

All about the execution

At this time of year, you have many opportunities, so I will stretch every sinew to do as much as I can. Everything else has to take a back seat, I’ll be a little less active on the blogging, fewer education events, less time for chit chat or …

Time to book your Betfair holiday

Time to book your Betfair holiday

For the larger commission payers amongst you, this is a reminder to make sure you examine whether its worth booking your Betfair holiday before Sunday for the next week or two

When you generate commission you get credited with Betfair points. The more points you have the lower commission you pay. But each week Betfair decay a big chunk of your points which you would then top up with more activity.

Next week is a short week, especially if you …

Holiday booked

Holiday booked

Having worked hard during the summer I’ve been using the time since the end of peak season to catch up on a few must have moments. So this week, until Saturday at least, you wont have me in the markets. I’ve taken care to book my Betfair holiday or else its going to cost me 15,000 points or so!

I hopped on a plane on Sunday and headed out of the country for a short while. I’ll be back trading …

Summer has almost gone

Summer has almost gone

Seeing Wolverhampton on the card again made me realise another summer has almost passed into the spreadsheet of history.

One of the realities of sports trading is that summer is peak season across a number of sports for me, so it’s a valuable time to get into top gear. I mourn it’s passing. But my attention will now turn to Tennis for the US Open and back to Football for the winter months. Racing, of course, is an all year …

Easter Bank holiday moanday

Easter Bank holiday moanday

The easter bank holiday is a funny day. I forgive racing for wanting to put on a show for punters, but it’s a mare for us on the other side. Just too much racing!

In total there are 66 races today of which 20 have the same starting time. Of those not clashing they generally start five minutes apart and will clash from that perspective. That means very few races will reach ‘critical mass’ at any point and be suitable …

An ill wind….

An ill wind….

Tis an Ill win that blows no good, so they say. With an ill wind blowing down from the artic it looks like racing is going to suffer badly over the next week. Saturday is pretty much a wipe out by the look of it.

So….. Hopefully you can now see the context of this blog entry back in the summer.

I know it seemed odd to some that you would put trading first in these situations. But that week …

Working holiday

Working holiday

I can now finally explain my ‘very satisfying‘ comment from a little while back.

Under duress from my wife and kids, this year we decided to have some ‘time off’ in August. I usually holiday in the winter when the sporting schedule is very quiet, but this year we took a summer ‘holiday’ as well. With the summer sporting schedule in full flow, it would prove very costly financially to just take time off; the winter is the …
