Just watching the action at Queens club at the moment and thought I scout around for any characteristics I could find.<\/p>\n
I recently ranked all tournaments by volatility, amongst other things, and noticed something curious about the AEGON grass court championships.<\/p>\n
If you look at last year at Queens the data seems to indicate that there were no matches that swung from 1.01 to a loss. Now it’s not impossible that I have missed the odd match, so please correct me if that stat is not correct. But if you look at the womens tournament in Eastbourne, also bearing the same sponsor, then there were three. This doesn’t sound a massive number but it’s best to put these stats into context by looking at them against the number of matches played. If you do that then then Eastbourne ranks right at the top of most gubbings, but’s it’s a narrow subset.<\/p>\n
Curiously if you widen the net to capture matches where the loser traded at 1.20 or lower then Queens club races back up the leaderboard.<\/p>\n
It’s prompted me to back date the data a bit further and see if its a characteristic or a fluke. I’ll let you know.<\/p>\n
