The tournament in Madrid has caught my attention this week. I haven’t traded it much in the past, but the move to blue clay<\/a> caught my attention. I love uncertainty, as it often creates opportunity.<\/p>\n

Madrid is playing on a new surface this year, blue clay. Officially the surface is supposed to play the same as red clay but the top players are complaining that it’s playing nothing like normal, “It’s too slippery”. Players have complained that it is hard to keep their feet on the surface, which was labelled “Smurf clay” by Milos Raonic. It’s difficult to tell if it is having an effect as we have such a small sample size at the moment, but Raonic took Federer to three sets and a tie break yesterday which made for great trading fodder. It’s also possible that it could be Federer’s short break from Tennis<\/a> was a factor on this occasion though?<\/p>\n

The current upshot is that form in Madrid, if the comments are true, won’t give you many pointers to the French Open which starts on 27 May. That’s a shame, but the uncertainty in Madrid could present some decent opportunities.<\/p>\n
