Tomorrow we have the finale to the flat turf season and a curtain raiser to the flat turf season. How can you have both? Let me explain.<\/p>\n

Ascot champions day<\/strong><\/p>\n

First, we have ‘Champions day’ at Ascot and it promises to be a real feast of racing.<\/p>\n

Champions day only came into being in 2011 so it’s relatively new in the scheme of things but it’s a weekend I wouldn’t miss for anything now. It’s the last shot at a decent total before we descend into winter.\u00a0The specific races existed before this meeting started but were brought together to bring in a real feast at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Last year, the average turnover was over \u00a32m per race. This was a big jump on the prior year and I’m hoping it’s gathered more momentum this year.<\/p>\n

Caulfield cup<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, down under, we have the Caulfield Cup. It’s a monster of a race and my traditional prep for the Melbourne Cup meeting. Last year it turned over just short of \u00a3900k. Aussie racing is a bit more liquid at this time of the year, so I’m expecting a similar amount this year. If you are an early riser then the fun starts at 02:15 in the morning UK time.<\/p>\n

The big race, however, is at a more realistic 06:30. So even if you struggle to get out of bed on a Saturday morning you may still stand a chance of catching some good quality Aussie group race.<\/p>\n

It’s\u00a0one of the days of the year that I wouldn’t, or couldn’t, miss!<\/p>\n
