As predicted Rory got off to a steady start and is only one behind the leaders at Valhalla. But the surprise of the day came from Lee Westwood. If past performance is anything to go by then Westwood will not see this through. I’ve forgotten how many times he has been in contention early on for his first major only for it to slip away. He’s the modern Montgomerie.<\/p>\n

Another surprise was the unexpected withdrawal of Matt Kuchar and Jason Dufner which would have benefited anybody back more than one runner. The\u00a0withdrawals actually reduced the market by\u00a03%.<\/p>\n

Rory is only one shot behind the lead but has come into 3’s. The market is pricing a consistent performance and for the others to slip up, which seems reasonable. The weather is looking a bit dodgy<\/a> so that could really mix things up from here. It seems to favour early tee times at the moment. \u00a0The market hasn’t really priced that in from what I can see, so that could provide some decent opportunities. All hinges on Rory now though because he is at such a short price. Any errors will see his price shoot out.<\/p>\n
